are Americans querky?

We've spent some time on this blog talking about the things in Russia that we (as Americans) think is a little crazy. Things I haven't mentioned yet include:
  • the Murse, or man purse. They're everywhere, and it seems that no self respecting Russian man would leave home without his Murse. Yes Ladies, it really LOOKS like a handbag.
  • I will say that things here have changed A LOT over the past 2 years. Irkutsk simply isn't he same city it was when we first came here 6 years ago. All of the scary playground equipment (that OSHA would have a field day condemning) has been replaced with brightly colored, safe looking equipment. It seems, however, every playground in every apartment courtyard and public square got the same equipment...exactly the same pieces are ALL over town.
  • More and more places take credit cards. At home, we never carry cash, and always use our debit card. Here in Russia, we are grateful that we are able to use our card, however just when we start counting on that - we'll go to the grocery store, and for some reason - on that particular day - they aren't taking credit cards. No explanation, no long string of Russian that we can't understand...just NIET!
So, my Russian friends - tell me what about America and Americans do you think is querky? What do we do that makes you scratch your head and wonder "what in the world?"

And to my American friends living in Russia - what has been the thing that your friends and neighbors here in Russia think is odd about you? Matching the decor in your home? Wearing a different outfit every day?

Would love to hear your experiences with cultural differences!
