IRKUTSK

For any of you who have been to Irkutsk – you will appreciate how much it has changed. When we first came here (3 years ago), very few places took credit cards, and the only familiar place was Benetton. Now, there is what appears to be a Domino’s Pizza, Burger King, and most places take credit cards.

There is construction all over the place - lots of new buildings and places to go. It's like a new city!

Did you find the Subway? Right off Karl Marx a few blocks from the pedestrian mall... If Igor is still there he spoke the best english of the staff! Enjoying the reports on your visit. I too can't believe how much Anya looks like her "pappy" - amazing! She looks like a living doll... praying this all gets resolved soon. Debbie from Wisconsin

Hi Jill! Look at the post titled 'documents'. The update from the Judge is there. Since we're the first American family to get this far (in 2 years), so much of this is trial and error. Another things that stinks is that you can't look at any other case, and use that as a precedent. The Judge specifically says 'that case was in the past, this is now'.

The main thing seems to be the apostille. In the U.S., the seal is just affixed to the document. In other countries, they punch holes, tie ribbons, stamp each page of a document. Ours is really simple in comparasion.

Thanks for all of you help and prayers!!

Kathy,

Sounds like you had a great trip!!
I know it will be hard for you coming home. Praying for you, Marty and Anya.

I cannot believe Irkutsk has a burger King now. Wow! Times have changed. I remember the first trip back in 1997 when they would tell us to stay locked in because they didn't think it would be good for us to walk around. There was NOTHING in Irkutsk. 2002 Was much better and we could go everywhere but now it seems like there is even more!! Amazing.
