In Russia, they seem to have Hallmark holidays like we do. SOmetime this week, they will celebrate International Children's Day . On annother blog, I read the following stats:
there are 35 million children in Russia
25% of them live below the poverty level
88% of them are below minimum requirements to be judged "healthy"
Sad....

My friend in Angarsk told me that it is generally celerated on 1 June, but since it was a Sunday, it was celebrated on the 2nd (today). She said this is the day that sponsors will visit orphanages and donate gifts or pledges of support.
