...and then reality smacked us in the face

As we were packing up on Tuesday night to catch our VERY early flight Wednesday morning, my Mom called. My Mom never calls when we are out of town. The conversation started with "Just wanted to tell you what is going on"...which in my family is code for something bad happened.

A close family friend, Jason, had been severely beaten, and was fighting for his life. The prognosis wasn't good. Jay's family was rushing to his side. By Wednesday morning, Jason had died.

We didn't sleep at all Tuesday night - every time we would talk, we would say "I just can't believe it".

The whole thing is so sad. He was only 32. Killed in the prime of his life. He has 2 small children. At the time of his death, Jason had so many promising things happening in his life. Lots of plans for his future. He had been working very hard on MANY things to make a better life for his family.

We can all take comfort in knowing that Jason is with God. He is free of pain, grief, confusion, sadness. For that, YAY Jason! High 5 to you!

To Jason's Mom and family - I am so sorry. I just don't know what to say, other than our thoughts and prayers are with you.
